Dr. Joseph Alwan has many years of experience working in the dental world. Other than helping patients regain and maintain healthy smiles, he also loves performing more advanced procedures like dental implants and wisdom teeth extractions. Always eager to share his expertise, he looks forward to meeting new people and providing the highest level of dental care that patients deserve!
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Dr. Alwan’s journey into dentistry began early in life. Having personally experienced dental challenges and seeing how tooth loss affected his family, he was inspired to pursue a career focused on improving oral health and relieving discomfort. Guided by empathy and excellence, he is now proud to provide dependable, comprehensive dental care that patients can truly trust.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Alwan attended the University of California at Los Angeles before studying at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He’s undergone countless hours of continuing education and remains dedicated to expanding his expertise in the field. He also earned a certificate for Fellowship from the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics, and he’s a proud member of the American Dental Association and the Virginia Dental Association. He also served on Active Duty as an Army Dental Officer for 8 years.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Does you Like to Do?
Away from dentistry, Dr. Alwan is married and has two children: a daughter and a son. He loves spending time with his family as much as possible, and he even bakes bread and pizzas for them. Together, they enjoy hiking and picking various foods, including apples, strawberries, blueberries, and pumpkins. He also loves animals—particularly birds—and enjoys breeding and raising Canaries. He’s even raised chukars, quails, and racing pigeons!
